Abstract

723,091. Knitting - machines. WORMLEIGHTON, R. C. July 3, 1951 [July 24, 1950], No. 18375/50. Class 74 (2). The needles of each bed of a warp machine are positively controlled in their movement at all times by cams 13. The needles are secured in a bar 10 sliding in end guides and attached at each end to levers 18 one arm of which has a cam follower 20 engaging a groove in its cam 13. The yarn guides are shogged by pattern drums 43, 44 which are under the influence of a selecting cam 50 which is periodically rotated by pawl and ratchet mechanism 53, 51 driven by an eccentric 38. Controlling this mechanism 53, 51 is a pattern chain 60 driven by a second pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 54, 52 which chain causes a bluffing member to be rendered operative or inoperative to determine the rotation of the selecting cam 50. A bluffing member also renders the mechanism 54, 52 operative or inoperative and comprises a cam 47 mounted on the shaft 34 carrying the drums 43, 44. A tensioning device for the yarns comprises a felt-covered elliptical roller 63 over which the yarns pass and adjustable guides 65 for adjusting the arc of contact.
