Abstract

Apparatus for regenerating spent acid pickle liquor comprises a tank C having two compartments 2, 3, separated by a partition 1, which together have a capacity at least as great as the pickling vat 19, an overflow conduit 7 leading from compartment 1 to compartment 2, an opening 14 at the base of the partition 1, and a cooling coil 12 and a paddle stirrer 9, 10 in compartment 1, the action of the stirrer causing circulation of the liquor in the direction shown, the compartment 1 acting as a crystallizer and the compartment 3 as a combined reservoir for liquor to be treated and settling tank for crystals formed in compartment 1 and carried over by the circulation to compartment 3. A wire mesh baffle 4 prevents the crystals (of ferrous sulphate) from returning to the compartment 1. When the treatment is complete the regenerated liquor is returned to the vat 19 by pipe 16.
