Abstract

721,625. Sectional steam or hot-water boilers. ZANDER, E. July 18, 1952 [July 24, 1951], No. 18252/52. Class 123 (2). The sections I, I<SP>1</SP> ... III, III', Fig. 4, of a sectional steam or.hotwater boiler each comprises one or more spaced vertical rows of slightly-inclined pipes 1 the ends of which are welded into plates 2, 2, Fig. 1, closing upright steam chests or water tanks 3, 3 provided with water, &c. inlet and outlet connections 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>2</SP>, the pipes of a row being arranged in gas-tight contact with one another over the whole or the greater part of the height of the chests 3 so as to form a wall of a gas flue. The left-hand half of Fig. 4 shows the preferred arrangement of the sections for a boiler burning cannel fuels such as wood or coal, and the right-hand half the arrangement for coke and other shortflaming fuels ; in the former instance the tubes defining rising gas flues are coated with clay 10 or like refractory and heat accumulating material. The sections are mounted on a manifold 18 having an ash pit 9, below a grate 5, and gas-collecting channels 12 ; the grate 5 is provided in the middle with a roof-like portion formed by water tubes 6 and surrounding an exchangeable air-inlet nozzle 7 which opens at opposite sides of the middle grate bar 8. The flows of air and combustion gases are indicated by the arrows 13<SP>1</SP>, 16, and a flow of secondary air behind an exchangeable baffle plate 11 is indicated by arrows 13<SP>2</SP> at the left-hand side of the Figure.
