Abstract
720,662. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 4, 1953 [Feb. 7, 1952], No. 3164/53. Class 39 (1) A permanent magnet lens comprises two coaxial tubular members, the ends of which are coupled by flanges, the inner member having an annular air gap axially adjustable by a tubular shunt held coaxially adjustable within the lens by a plurality of leaf springs arranged in spaced planes perpendicular to the lens axis. A tubular permanent magnet 1 supports flanges 7, 9, the air gap 5 in which is adjustable by a soft iron shunt 13 supported on annular flat springs 15, 17 which are .carried by the flanges 7, 9 through bolts 19, 21 and spacers 23, 27. One of the extensions 3', 3" on the flanges may be dispensed with; the lens may be used in an oscilloscope or television receiver. Arranged angularly at a distance of 90 degrees from the points at which the springs are secured, rods 33 are attached to the springs and carry extensions which can be moved against the action of the springs by a fork-shaped member 43 operated by a Bowden cable 39 which is connected to the front panel of a receiver. Slack in one of the springs may be removed by making a double bend therein. In a modification, the ring 13 may be arranged within the part 3' and is connected to the springs by brass tags.
