An apparatus applied to the person in measuring for a brassiere or similar garment-consists in an adjustable girdle A whose upper edge is provided with shaped portions F which form rudimentary breast cups applicable to the lower parts of the breasts, adjustable shoulder straps G connecting the breast cups to the back of the girdle A and further adjustable straps K, L connecting the upper edge of the girdle on opposite sides of each cup to the front portion of the adjacent strap G to define the upper edge of the garment front. When the apparatus is removed the essential dimensions of the breasts remain indicated by the adjusted straps. Measurements may also be taken between suitably indicated points on the various elements whilst the apparatus is in position. In Fig. 4, the straps K, L are adjustably received-by buckles B<SP>4</SP>, B<SP>5</SP> at the ends of a tape H which carries a tape g<SP>3</SP> having buckles B<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>3</SP> which are adjustably engaged with the parts g<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>2</SP> of a divided shoulder strap G. A single "four-way" slide may replace the tapes H and g<SP>3</SP> and buckles thereon, or the tape H may be attached to a buckle or slide on the tape G, which then has an adjusting buckle at the rear of the apparatus. The front portion of the girdle may be independently adjustable to accommodate variations in the spacing of the breasts. The straps K may be threaded through a slide adjustable up and down a central tongue a<SP>2</SP>.
