720,472. Laying permanent way. ODOT, C. A. M. E. Sept. 28, 1951, No. 22723/51. Class 104 (2). [Also in Group XXXII] A train for lifting and laying pre-assembled railway track sections comprising stock cars coupled to a locomotive and arranged to carry track sections and connected together at their upper parts by a continuous runway upon which a carriage provided with lifting means is adapted to run includes a bridge car formed by two metal columns mounted on bogies and connected at their upper parts by a metal bridge extending over the track to an extent greater than the length of one of said pre-assembled track sections. The bridge car comprises girders 35 mounted on bogies 36 and rigidly connected by a bridge 34 carrying a runway 37 continuous with corresponding runways on adjoining stock cars and on which runs a carriage provided with lifting means. The car is of sufficient length to enable a complete track section 38 to be raised and moved along the runway and replaced by a new section of track lowered between the girders 35 on to the permanent way. In order that new track may be laid, the bridge car may be preceded by a car having a short jib crane which is capable of laying short lengths of temporary track to enable the train to advance, the temporary lengths being finally lifted and replaced by full length track sections.
