Abstract

720,296. Suction-boxes of paper-making machines &c. MATHIAS, E. A. R. Sept. 3, 1952 [Dec. 13, 1951], No. 29197/51. Class 96. A frame 20, Fig. 1, which may fit in undercut slots, is mounted on the body 10 of a suction-box of a paper-making machine, and carries a series of independent, wire - cloth - supporting rollers &c. # to 2 in. diameter, in axial alignment across the machine, and staggered in relation to adjoining rows. Bridges 30 support roller bearings, e.g. of plastic. Provision is made for adjusting the width of the suction-box opening to suit the width of the pulp web, as by handles 62 on rods 52, and movable metal bridges 42, 47 for the end rollers of each line. Alternatively, rollers 75 may be slotted and extensible as illustrated in Fig. 7, bosses 76 retaining the trunnions on the bearings, or a light spring 77 may be fitted. The bearing blocks which may be of resin-impregnated laminated fabric may be lubricated and cooled by water drawn upwardly, by the suction in the box, from a reservoir below the box. Handles 13, a baffle 15 and a suction-pipe 12 may be as illustrated in Fig. 1.
