Abstract

720,221. Fourdrinier paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, Ltd. May 7, 1953 [June 23, 1952], No. 15715/52. Class 96. At the couch end of a Fourdrinier papermaking machine, the wire-cloth and a press felt pass between a small blow roll 28 and a suction roll 15, the suction zone 15A of which can be shortened and positioned by adjustment screws 54 and 54A which move sealing-pads 51 and 49, so as to pick up the narrow leading strip or " tail " of the web which is cut by jets over the wire-cloth when starting up the machine. The blow roll 28 is supported from a grooved supply pipe 27 to allow it to be adjusted longitudinally through a support 26 and through another support (not shown) which is spring- loaded to hold the blow roll against the wirecloth and which has a grub screw entering the groove in the pipe 27 to hold the roll, &c., in position with its air jet opposite the shortened suction-zone'of the roll 15. The jet, which may include a water spray, raises the web from the wire-cloth. Specifications 365,373, 458,758 and 717,251 are referred to.
