Abstract

720,206. Pipe bends. BARTH, W. April 1, 1952. [April 7, 1951] No. 8284/52. Class 99 (1). A pipe bend adapted to be connected to a pipe 1 of circular crosssection comprises a straight portion 15 the cross-section of which merges gradually from the circular at 2 to the rectangular at 12, and an arcuate portion 5 of rectangular cross-section. The arcuate portion may be connected to a pipe 3 by a similar straight portion 15. The arcuate portion 5 may be provided with concentric partitions 11, the position of which may be determined by consideration of the ratio of the mean radius of each section formed by the' partitions to its radial depth. A ratio which is stated to be favourable as regards pressure losses is 1.85. The ratio should be the same for each section. The arcuate section may also have flat partitions parallel to its flat sides.
