Abstract

719,940. Suction cleaners. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CURTIS, T. J. Nov. 4, 1952 [Nov. 12, 1951; March 24, 1952], Nos. 26455/51 and 7531/52. Class 8 (1). An electrically-driven suction fan unit 1, Fig. 1, and a dirt receptacle 11 of a hand vacuum cleaner having a detachable nozzle 14 is detachably received by a carriage 19, Fig. 3, comprising a suction nozzle 20 supported in the operative position by wheels 21, 22 and provided with a brush 23, beater or the like driven. from the wheel 21, so as to be rotated on moving the carriage 19 along the floor. The motor 3 and fan 4 are mounted in a casing 2 having a handle 7 incorporating a lever operated switch 8 and an inlet aperture 5 in sealing engagement -with a front portion 18 of the carriage 19 which forms the upper part of the nozzle 20. The brush 23 is mounted in two parts on a stationary spindle and said parts are driven by belts 24 having floor contacting projections 25 from opposite wheels 21 at a speed greater than the wheels 21. Side booms 37 (not.shown) form a propelling handle.
