719,533. Electric soldering-irons. ADAMSON, R. A. Sept. 19, 1951, [Sept. 19, 1950.] No. 22960/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (3). In an electric soldering-iron having a metal rod, e.g. of copper, around the greater length of which is wound a heating element wire with thin insulation, e.g. mica, interposed, the wire is one of high positive temperature coefficient of resistance, e.g. of nickel, the length of the rod and of the wire thereon being such that the current flowing initially is at least twice that flowing at working temperature, the rod being supported from a handle and having an outer casing to limit heat loss except to the bit, which is either formed by or carried by the end of the rod. More specifically the soldering-iron construction is as in Specification 604,555, the resistance wire and rod being as set out above.
