Abstract
719,518. Cooling rear engines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Oct. 16, 1952 [Nov. 30, 1951], No. 26023/52. Class 79(3) The body of a rear-engined motor vehicle has cooling air inlets in the front of the rear wings which are incorporated in the body side panels, depressions being formed in the lower portions of the doors forward of the inlets to enable free air intake. As shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 the rear wing 1 is formed with an aperture 3 admitting cooling air through passages 4. 4<SP>1</SP> to the radiator, if the engine is water cooled, or to the engine, if air cooled. beneath a bonnet 5. The door 6 is formed with the depression 7, whose profile forms an extension of the wing 1. The depression 7 enables air to pass into the aperture 3. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 to 9 (not shown), the upper portion of the rear door is continuous with the front door and the rear ring, whereas the lower portion is shaped so as to link up with the air intake in the rear wing.
