717,135. Stop motion for gilling &c. machines. ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS (COLNE), Ltd. Nov. 3, 1952 [Nov. 2, 1951], No. 25627/51. Class 120(2) A stop motion for gilling and like textile machines of the type in which each sliver is fed to the machine over a pivoted curved plate adapted to be held in position by the sliver and to rock into a second position on the absence of the sliver to actuate a switch controlling an electric stop motion is characterized in that the curved plate is pivoted by lugs arranged below,the centre of gravity of the plate on a switch box, the pivot means carrying one contact of an electric switch which engages a second contact of the switch to operate a stop motion when the pivoting of the curved plate causes the contact to 'close on the absence of a sliver. As shown, each sliver passes over a curved plate A pivoted on a lug a below its centre of gravity on a switch box B carried by an angle bar A<SP>1</SP>. A rod a<SP>1</SP> forms the pivot and is affixed to lug a. The rod a<SP>1</SP> carries a bracket b' on which is mounted a switch contact b which engages a second switch contact b<SP>2</SP> on the switch box B when the plate pivots into the chain dotted position shown in Fig. 3, consequent on the sliver breaking or being exhausted. The closing of the contacts b, b<SP>2</SP> operates a stop motion to stop the machine. A bar C, affixed to the angle bar A' by brackets c', has stationary curved guides C' attached to it. Alternatively the guldes C<SP>1</SP> can be formed in one with the plate A. Means may be provided for holding the plates A to prevent them from operating the stop motion when fewer than the maximum number of slivers are passing through the machine.
