Abstract

Multi-filament nylon yarn is treated with an aqueous dispersion containing a low concentration of an amide of a fatty oil acid, and thereafter with a resorcin-formaldehyde-rubber latex mix. The aqueous dispersion preferably contains about 2 per cent of the fatty oil acid amide, which may be prepared from coconut, soya, linseed, cotton-seed or rape-seed fatty acids. In an example, a multifilament nylon yarn is passed through an aqueous bath containing a fatty oil acid amide, through squeeze rolls and then through a dip tank containing rubber latex, water, resorcin, formaldehyde, and caustic soda, and after squeezing is dried under tension. The treatment makes the yarn suitable for adhesion to rubber.ALSO:Multi-filament nylon is pretreated to give a yarn suitable for use in composite rubber structures such as tyres by applying to the yarn an aqueous dispersion containing a low concentration of an amide of a fatty oil acid, and thereafter applying to the yarn a resorcinformaldehyde-rubber latex mix. The aqueous dispersion preferably contains about 2 per cent. of the fatty oil amide which is prepared from coconut, soya, linseed, cottonseed and rape seed fatty acids. In an example a multi-filament nylon yarn is passed through an aqueous bath containing 2.2 per cent. of a fatty oil acid amide and after passing through squeeze rolls it then passes through a dip tank containing rubber latex 38.5 per cent., water 53.9, resorcin 3.8, formaldehyde 1.9, and 10 per cent. caustic soda 1.9 and after squeezing was dried under tension.
