Abstract

714,538. Air-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 6, 1952 [June 7, 1951], No. 14296/52. Class 38(5) In an air-blast switch having a rod-like contact 5 fixed at its lower end in a tubular insulator 4 and a movable contact 14 fixed to an operating piston 15 in a cylinder 16 mounted on the insulator, the single tubular insulator 4 serves as a blast passage and insulates the contacts from each other and from earth. The lower end of the contact 5 may be formed as a fixing plate which is secured to the inner wall of the insulator by bolts 6. A 'bracket 7 on which the arm 8 of a disconnecting switch is pivoted, may also be secured to the insulator by the bolts 6. To open the switch, a coil 22 is energized to open a pilot valve 12 so that compressed air in a container 1 is able to force down a piston 26 to open the blast valve 27. The air blast moves the piston 15 against the bias of a spring 17 to open the contacts 5, 14, the arc drawn being extinguished by the air blast through the contact 14. After the valve 27. has been opened, compressed air flowing through a passage 24 acts on a piston 23 to open the disconnecting switch 8, 9. On the closing of the valve 27, the contacts 5, 14 automatically reclose and a valve 25 may then be actuated to admit compressed air above the piston 23 to reclose the isolating switch 8, 9.
