Abstract

803,748. Gas-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Dec. 14, 1956 (Dec. 15, 1955], No. 38183/56. Class 38 (5). An air-blast circuit-breaker with the fixed contact 4 mounted on. an insulator (not shown) in a compressed air container 1 has a nozzleformed moving contact 17 arranged to move in a cylinder 7 having at the end remote from the contacts a fixed sealing member 12 for an outlet valve 11 so that the distance between the sealing member 12 and the fixed contact 4 is equal to the sum of the length of the nozzle contact and the contact travel. As shown, a chamber 14 is connected to the container 1 by pipes 28, 29, a spring 21 holds the contacts 4, 17 closed, and a spring 13 holds the valve 11 closed. To open the breaker, compressed air is passed by a valve 34 to lift a resilient membrane 32 which operates a valve disc 30 to close the pipe 28 and connect the chamber 14 to the atmosphere. Air pressure in the chamber 1 opens the contacts and the valve 11 and in the open position a further valve disc 18 on an extension 16 of the moving contact 17 seats on a sealing device 19 to inter - rupt the connection between the chamber 14 and the atmosphere and then the valve 11 is closed by air from the container 1 entering the chamber 14 through channels 24, 25. To close the breaker the valve 34 is operated to restore atmospheric pressure below the membrane 32 to return the valve disc 30 to the position shown so that with the same pressure on each side of the disc 18 the spring 21 closes the contacts.
