714,459. Two-stroke engines; valves. REMBOLD, V. May 9, 1952 [May 16, 1951], No. 11821/52. Classes 7(2) and 7(6) In a two-stroke reciprocating engine comprising chambers 9, 19 and 1a in the engine frame 2 for scavenging air, supercharging air or mixture, and exhaust gases respectively, the reciprocating cylinder 4 is provided with a first group of ports 10 co-operating with the chambers 9, 19, to control the admission of scavenging air and supercharging air or mixture and a second group of ports 6 controlling the escape of exhaust gases into the chamber 1a. The cylinder 4 is reciprocated by eccentrics 12 leading the pistonoperating crank 16 by an angle a, so that on' the upstroke the ports 10 first admit the low-pressure scavenging air from the chamber 9 and then open the ports 21 to admit high pressure supercharging air or mixture, and on the downstroke the piston 3 blocks the ports 10 to prevent the entry of supercharging air. The cylinder 4 may be provided with a separate ring of ports above the ports 10 for the supercharging air or mixture. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 715,497.
