Abstract
714,408. Change-speed gear. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Feb. 1, 1950 [Feb. 2, 1949], No. 135/53. Divided out of 714,324. Class 80(2) In a three speeds and reverse planet gear the input shaft 12 is connectable through first and second clutches 18, 17 respectively to an assembly comprising two suns 29, 33 fast on an inner shaft 40, and a first planet carrier 31 ; the outer driving member 38a of the first clutch 18 is fast with the inner driving member 38b of the second clutch 17; and a band-brake 15, for reverse, directly engages the cylindrical outer driven member of the second clutch 17. Both clutches 17, 18 are engaged together for direct drive, whilst the first clutch 18 is used alone for low and reverse with brakes 15, 16; and clutch 17 alone with brake 15 for second speed. The train and a driving torque-converter 13 of the overrun reactor type, are as in the main Specification. Specifications 674,525 and 714,324 are referred to.
