Abstract

713,458. Electrostatic screens for couplings. PYE, Ltd. Oct. 31, 1952, [Oct. 1, 1951.] No. 22856/51. Class 38(1). Coronary discharge from terminals and uninsulated wires, e.g. at the ends of a rectifier 4 mounted on a high-tension transformer i, is prevented by surrounding the terminals and wires by hollow, spheroidal, metal shields. Each shield comprises two parts secured together by a bayonet joint, the shield at the heater end of the rectifier comprising a part 8 having an aperture 10 for heater leads 11,12 and by which the shield is. secured to an insulating base 27. The lead 12 is secured to a terminal tag 14 bent up from the material of the shield whilst lead 11 is secured to a tag I3 mounted on an insulating strip. An aperture 9 is provided in the shield for the end of the rectifier and the co-operating part I6 of the shield has an opening 17 for an external connection. All the apertures have rounded edges. The anode. lead 23 at the other end of the rectifier which passes through an opening 22 in a part 21 of the other shield is connected to a tag 20 integral with the shield part, which also has an aperture for this end of the rectifier. Part 2I is also secured to a base 28, the bases 27, 28 being of thermoplastic material and mounting of the shield parts 8, 2I being effected by passing the apertures 10, 22 over upstanding abutments on the bases which are then melted to cause the material to run and adhere to the shield parts. The rims of the shield parts 8, 21 may be stepped so that a flush external surface is presented when the co-operating parts are in position.'
