Abstract
713,210. Blanching and cleaning peas &c. JONES, T. M. Jan. 23, 1953 [Feb. 7, 1952], No. 3236/52. Class 58. [Also in Group VI] A blancher for peas and beans comprises a tube a open at its top f, for supplying peas or beans thereinto, and perforated at its lower part b, which is within a closed chamber c containing hot water and which is supplied with cold water from a pipe s, and a pipe h, for the extraction of peas or beans and water, extending down into the perforated lower part of the tube. The peas or beans may be supplied to the tube down spaced steps p, the peas or beans bouncing from step to step and any non-rolling material in the peas or beans passing between the steps and being discharged at q. The water in the chamber c is heated by a steam coil d. The peas or beans and water are sucked up the pipe h and a pipe i by the action of an ejecter g operated by high-pressure water, and pass on to a chute j in which are spaced steps k, the peas or beans cascading down these steps to an outlet m and the water, together with any splits and skins which have passed between the steps, falling to a sump n.
