Class 141 A close-fitting garment e.g. brassiere or girdle comprising a fabric part and elastic means for imparting circumferential tension, is characterized in that the elastic means comprise a first elastic member which is stretchable longitudinally and secured along its length and at its ends to the garment and a second elastic member also stretchable longitudinally, overlying said first elastic member and attached at its ends to the first member and to the garment. The first elastic member is preferably constituted by one wall of a tubular sheath. As shown, the first member comprises two longitudinally elastic sections 15 secured to the lower edges of the breast pockets 10 and to band portions 11. The sections 15 are folded over along the lower edge 16 and overlap at the central part 20. Two longitudinally elastic strips 22 extend within the folded sections 15, their ends being secured to the portions 11 and central part 20. Alternatively, the inner ends of the two strips 22 may overlap and they may be joined by lattice stitch &c. to the breast pockets 10. When applied to a girdle, the composite section 15, 22 or several composite sections may be located along the top or bottom edge.
