iined brassiere and gridle .mary object the provision of a garment of this type having a novel and ctive construction and certain desirable "acteristics.
The invention particularly contemplates the provision of a garment of the type indicated which acts to flatten the diaphragm, to support restrain the abdomen by means of a specially designed internal belt, to control the waistline and avoid unsightly bulging of the body, and to confine surplus flesh of the body without interfering with the freedom of movement of the wearer.
The invention further contemplates a garment of the type indicated which includes a brassiere section that gives support and a natural contour to the breasts.
The exact nature of the present garment will become apparent from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure l is a front elevational view of a foundation garment constructed in accordance with the present invention, and showing the garment as it appears while being worn.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the same.
Figure 4 is a vertical section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section taken through the front of the garment on line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a v ew similar to Figure 5 taken on line 86 of Figure 1.
Figure '7 is an enlarged fragmentary horizontal section taken through the front of the garment on line 'l-l of Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary rear view of the garment showing the rear closure for the upper part of the gridle section in opened condition.
Figure 9 is a fragmentary elevational view showing the fagoting for connecting adjacent edges of the garment sections and adjacent edges of parts of the gridle section.
Referring tail to the drawings, the present garment consists of a brassiere section B, and a girdle section G joined at the upper edge of its front portion and parts of its side portions to the lower edge of the brassiere section by fagoting 5 so as to permit free relative flexing of the sections and to promote ventilation.
The brassire section includes breast pockets t icined aicng their adjacent or inner side edges, free end band portions i joined to the outer side of the pockets S and adapted to be adjustably connected by suitable means 8 at the back of the wearer, and elastic breast supporting and separating straps 9 extended entirely across the lower portions of the pockets 5. The pockets are mainly composed. of netting or loosely woven fabric and have inserts ll! of closely woven fabric in the lower inner side portions thereof. Shoulder straps ll connect the tops of the pockets 6 with the rear end portion of the band portions '5.
The girdle section includes a central inelastic front panel 132 of substantially triangular shape disposed with its apex at the bottom, front elastic panels is joined to the side edges of the panel 12, and a combined back and side panel 14 of elastic material having its side edges joined to the outer side edges of the panels I3 by fagoting I5 to promote vertical flexibility and ventilation. The panels 5 3 and it include short upper portions and longer lower portions joined by fagoting I6 to fur aer promote flexibility and ventilation. The panels l3 and l are yieldable horizontally so as to have a confining action in respect to the girth of the body.
The upper part of the panel M is slit centrally 0f the back thereof to provide a partial closure which aids in donning the garment, suitable means such as a slide fastener ll being provided to close and secure the closure in closed condition.
On the inside of the front portion of the girdle section is a confining belt that extends nearly the full length of said front portion and consists of a central inelastic panel I8 of triangular form and elastic laterally yieldable side panels l9 joined at their inner edges to the side edges of the panel 58 and at their outer edges to the panels l3 intermediate the side edges of the latter and along downwardly converging lines. The panel l8 has its apex at the bottom, and inelastic fabric strips 29 are stitched to the outer faces of the panels 53 along and by the downwardly converging lines of stitching 2! which secure the outer edges of the belt panels it to the panels 53-. This arrangement provides a peculiar desirable control or confining action on the abdomen and diaphragm and allows comfortable movement and breathing of the'wearer of the garment.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be apparent. Changes in details of construction are contemplated, such as fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
1. A foundation garment including a girdle section, and a brassire section joined at the lower edge of its front portion to the upper edge of the front portion of the girdle section by fagoting, the remainder of the brassiere and girdle sections being free of each other, said girdle section comprising a central front inelastic panel of triangular form and disposed with its apex at the bottom of the panel, horizontally yieldable elastic front panels joined to the side edges of said inelastic panel, a combined back and side panel of horizontally yieldable elastic material joined at its side edges to the outer side edges of the front elastic panels by fagoting, and downwardly converging inelastic fabric strips secured to the outer faces of the front elastic panels intermediate the side edges of the latter and in spaced relation to the sides of said central front panel.
2. The construction defined in claim 1, in combination with a belt on the inside of the front portion of said girdle section extending nearly the full length of the latter, said belt including a cen- REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
