Abstract

Cellulose fibres consisting of cotton, soda pulp or sulphite cellulose are kneaded below about 50 DEG C. with from 3 to 5 times their weight of zinc chloride solution as used for parchmentizing, the resulting mass is shaped into endless webs, tubes or bars while being heated at 80 to 100 DEG C., the zinc chloride is washed out with water and the product dried. The cellulose fibres are mixed preferably with 4 times their weight of a 70 per cent. zinc chloride solution, and the mass, may be kneaded for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Substances such as graphite, corundum, soot, wood-meal and synthetic resins may be added in the kneading operation. German Specifications 544,328 and 730,084 are referred to.ALSO:A plastic mass which may be shaped at 80 to 100 DEG C. into endless webs, tubes or bars is obtained by kneading, below about 50 DEG C., cellulose fibres consisting of cotton, soda pulp or sulphite cellulose with 3 to 5 times their weight of zinc chloride solution, with the optional addition of corundum or wood-meal.
