Abstract
Viscose for use in the preparation of a wood substitute, is p made from cotton waste or remnants of cotton textiles, these being steeped in 20 per cent caustic soda solution, then pressed so as to contain six times their weight of such solution, and afterwards reacted with 10 per cent of carbon disulphide calculated on the alkali cellulose.ALSO:For the manufacture of a wood substitute, wood waste such as sawdust is kneaded with cotton viscose which may have been diluted with water, and the resulting mass is filled into a mould and is put under pressure; the moulded product is finally subjected to a slow drying process at 25 DEG C. The dried product may be returned to the mould, subjected therein to heavy pressure and then stored at 20 DEG C. for some time before use. Mineral substances such as kaolin and gypsum may be added to the mass. The viscose is prepared from cotton waste or remnants of cotton textiles; the cotton waste is steeped in 20 per cent caustic soda solution, pressed so that one part of the cotton waste retains 6 parts of the solution, and to the mass is then added 10 per cent of carbon disulphide calculated on the alkali cellulose to produce the cellulose xanthate.
