Sliding--jaw wrenches.-The sliding-jaw 8 of a self-adjusting spanner is operated by being hinged to the lever handle 4 by a pin 24 formed on one half 22 of the hinge, fitting into a hole in the other half 26 formed on the handle 4, the lever being secured in the other jaw by a pin 3 fitting in the oval slot 14, lost motion being minimized by a spring let into a bore 27 in the handle. A flat spring may be used.
