Class 87 (2) [Also in Group VIII] Apparatus for trimming flash from moulded rubber shoe soles &c. comprises a pair of rotatable trimming knives 17, 19 having their axes inclined to each other and intersecting whereby a portion of a face of one knife adjacent to its periphery overlaps and contacts the corresponding portion of the other knife, a spring 45 urging the knife 17 into driving contact with the knife 19, and means for rotating the knife 17 whereby the knives cooperate to trim the material. The knife 17 is chamfered and the knife 19 dished. The knife 17 is secured to a spindle 40 slidable within and keyed to a counterbored spindle 28 driven from a motor-driven sprocket wheel 14 and located within a cylindrical cavity 38 in an arm 16 by means of eccentric bushes 36, 37. The spring 45 is located between the spindles 28 and 40. The arm 16 is supported by a frame 13 and carries a rotatable sleeve 34 integral with a cranked arm 18 in which the knife 19 is mounted. This knife is secured to one end of a spindle 58 which is rotatably mounted within an eccentrically bored adjustable sleeve 53 disposed within a casing 48 formed at one end of the arm 18. The amount by which the knife peripheries overlap may be adjusted by rotating the arm 18 relative to the arm 16 or by rotating the sleeve 53, or by both. The knife 17 is made harder than the knife 19 so as to exert a sharpening action thereon.
