Abstract
225,291. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Aug. 30, 1923. Shaping.-Wooden heels are shaped by highspeed cutters 21 mounted on a pair of oppositely rotating spindles 20 each driven directly by an electromotor 36, one side of the heel being shaped by each cutter. The spindles are each supported by two bearings 27, 47 with oil cavities 50, 46, and both bearings are connected with the motor casing by a rod 31, the whole unit being adjustable vertically by a screw 42. The heel is clamped between a jaw 56 and a plate 54, the former pivoted to an arm 57 which is pressed by a spring against a clamping lever 58 operated by a hand lever 59 which also forms the handle for moving the heel over the cutter. The plate 54 is carried by the frame 61 which is mounted on a vertical rock shaft 64 capable of vertical movement in its supporting bracket 67 which is mounted to swing about a shaft 68. Adjustable cam tracks 90, 76 are provided for each cutter, for tilting the clamp and for moving it vertically as the heel is moved round the cutter, the horizontal section of the cut being determined by a former 104 which is kept in contact with an adjustable guide 106.
