Abstract
710,786. Polarizing apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1951 (Feb. 17, 1951], No. 29859/51. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XL(b)] The contrast of a luminous screen image, such as a television image formed on the screen of a cathode ray tube L, is improved in the presence of external light by placing a plane polarized filter P in-front of the screen. The filter may be used alone or in conjunction with corresponding filters, such as P1, placed in front of the sources of external light. The filters are arranged to be rotatable so that their planes may be set perpendicular to each other. The filter P can be formed on the screen of the cathode ray tube. Alternatively it may be formed on a glass or similar transparent disc as may be mounted between two such discs. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a construction in which the filter is supported in a rotatable holder attached to the front panel of the television set. Herapatite is referred to as a suitable. polarizing material.
