Abstract

534,973. Television. COOPER, A. H. Aug. 24, 1939, No. 24326. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] Ambient illumination is provided around a television receiver comprising a cathode-ray tube viewed directly or through a mirror to prevent eye-strain without detrimentally illuminating the cathode-ray screen. For this purpose lamps are provided behind the receiver and the switching of these lamps may dim lamps in the room, or lamps are provided in the receiver and louvres provided for controlling the illumination. In another arrangement, Fig. 2, glass rods 6, 7, 8 scored with lines 4 are arranged around the screen 2 and lighted by lamps 9, 10 11 at their ends to produce a circular gleam. In still another arrangement, Fig. 3, a glass plate 12 with a circular hole 13 for the screen has a ground front face and a silvered and blackened inner edge 16 and is lighted by lamps 14, 15 at the outer edges. Specification 460,508, [Group XX], is referred to as a device for producing an illumination surround for a screen on which an image is projected.
