710,299. Mixing appliances. MORTON MACHINE CO., Ltd. THOMSON, W., LEITH. R. C., and HEPBURN, R. March 18, 1952 [Nov, 16, 1951], No. 27000/51. Class 86 A batter mixing or similar liquid mixing machine comprises a fixedly mounted hopper 1 having rotary beaters on horizontal axes 5, 6, the lowest sweep of the beater members of the beaters on the axis 6 being at a higher level than 'the axis 5 and the hopper having a discharge opening 8 and a door 10 which is arranged for an opening movement first in a direction normal to its plane of closure and then laterally with respect thereto so as to leave the opening 8 unobstructed. The door 10 is mounted on a bar which at each end 13 passes through slots 14 in an arm 15 rotatable about a bearing 16<SP>1</SP>. The door is held in closed position by a pair of plates 18 having cam slots 17 which also receive the bar ends 13. The plates 18 are rotatable on the bearings 16<SP>1</SP> by means of hand driven or otherwise powered gearing 19, 20, and clockwise rotation of the plates 18 causes firstly, outward movement of the bar 13 along the slots 14 to remove the door from the opening 8 and secondly, imparts clockwise rotation to the arms 15 thus moving the door laterally to a position clear of the opening 8.
