Abstract

710,291. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 19, 1951 [Nov. 18, 1950], No. 24452/51. Class 38(5) In a multi-contact relay the movable contact springs 13 are arranged side by side in one plane and are moved into engagement with fixed contacts 15 by an actuating bar 18 supported by two biased springs 11 and itself actuated by the L-shaped armature 3, 4 when this is attracted by the magnet 1. The contact springs 13 pass through slots in the bar 18 which passes through a cut-out 6 in the armature and is normally separated by a gap from a portion 5 of the armature. Another set of contacts 8 is adapted to be operated directly by the armature and the arrangement is such that a weak energization of the magnet 1 will operate the set 8 only, the armature moving through the above-mentioned gap. A stronger energization will then operate the contacts 13. The contacts 13, 15 are embedded in insulating ledges 19, 12 fixed to L-shaped bars 9, 10 on opposite sides of the supporting plate 2 and transparent plastic foils 20, 21 protect the contacts from dust.
