Abstract
708,713. Anti-dazzle devices for vehicle lamps. SCHENK, K. March 30, 1950 [March 30, 1949], No. 8005/50. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (4) An anti-dazzle filter for a vehicle lamp comprises a transparent plate a having on one side a grid screen comprising light permeable areas b of parallel sided strip form separated by opaque areas c of similar form, and on the other side a lens screen d having convex lens elements each aligned with an adjacent pair of areas b, c, the focal points of the lens elements on the grid screen side lying within the thickness of said grid screen. As illustrated the areas b, c are of the same size and the filter is arranged so that a parallel lamp beam is incident on the grid screen and the beam transmitted through a single lens element is spread downwardly through an angle I, the light which would otherwise be spread upwardly through an angle II being intercepted by an opaque area c. A second lens screen d<SP>1</SP> and its support a<SP>1</SP> may be provided at the light entrance side of the screen b, a. In manufacturing the filter the support a and lens screen d may be formed homogeneously by embossing the lens screen d upon a sheet of glass or celluloid. A light sensitive layer, e.g. a chromate layer is provided on the opposite side of the support a, and is exposed through the lens screen d to substantially parallel light beams from a source of light, e.g. a luminous gas tube which by means of a condenser lens system provides converging beams each having a direction and an aperture angle corresponding to that of the light beam I to be transmitted through a lens element of the screen d. The areas of the light sensitive layer which are acted upon by the light beams become hardened and remain light permeable to form the areas b. The light sensitive material is removed from the remaining areas c of said layer by a developing operation and the areas are then rendered opaque by staining with a dye.
