Abstract

708,710. Centrifugal separators. LAVAL SEPARATOR CO. Dec. 23, 1952 [Dec. 26, 1951]. No. 32608/52. Class 23 [Also in Group XXXIV] A frame 10 contains a centrifugal bowl 13 which is axially adjustable in its support 12 relative to a table 16, which supports a can 17 supplying material, preferably milk, to the bowl by way of a cook 18. Bearings 38,. 39 for a driving spindle 29 are preferably supported in flexible bushes 36, 37 which allow limited axial and vertical movements during the running of the bowl, enlarged spaces 34, 35 receiving the bushes 36, 37. The whole bowl: and spindle unit is adjustable vertically, relative to the support 12, by means of a screw 77 having a head 80 which engages a slot 75 in a bearing mount 33. The latter is locked in position by means of a screw 81. A motor 48, mounted on the side of the support 12, drives pulleys 53, 31, connected by a belt 54, the pulley 31 being long enough to cater for the adjustments of the spindle. The frame 10 may be cast in one piece or built up of separate parts and is supported on a stool 23 by means of an annular shoulder 22. The bottom of the can 17 is provided with a recessed ring 62 containing a hollow plug 64 which has a hole 65 for a locating pin 66 on the can which is removable from the plug 64. Thus the proper alignment of the cock 18 with the inlet receptacle 57b is assured. The bowl 13 is of conventional type and has an inlet cover 57 containing a float 57a for controlling the flow of liquid through a passage 57b. Covers 58, 59 receive the separated liquid components discharged from the bowl.
