Abstract

708,642. Fluid-actuated valves. HYMATIC ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. April 17, 1952 [April 25, 1951], No. 9616/51. Class 135 A combined pressure reducing and relief valve comprises a body with inlet 1 and outlet 16, a ball closure member 3 urged off its seat 5 by a spring 12 and towards its seat by outlet pressure acting on a diaphragm 10, the diaphragm having a central hole closed by a relief closure member 7 which transmits diaphragm movements to the member 3. Thus, after closure of the reducing valve, if outlet pressure increases, the diaphragm will move to compress spring 12 until member 7 abuts an adjustable rod 14, and further movement unseats the member to permit relief of excess pressure through holes 15. The diaphragm is supported by a plunger 19 slidable in the spring housing 13, the annular chamber 20 surrounding the plunger forming a buffer to damp vibrations of the diaphragm, aided by friction between the plunger and housing. The ball member may be replaced by a mitred closure member.
