Classes 79(2), 79(3) and 79(4) [Also in Group XXXII] In a vehicle having driven front and tandem rear wheels, the drive being transmitted through a central distribution gear, two auxiliary distribution gears at the vehicle sides, and shafts to the wheels, each rear wheel has a worm wheel casing connected by pivots to two vertically spaced levers oscillating about pivots carried by brackets resiliently connected to the vehicle frame so that angular movements of the pair of levers on one side of the vehicle are independent of the pair of levers on the other side. As shown the engine 2 drives through a change speed gear 3 and a shaft 5 the central distribution gear 4 and the auxiliary distribution gears 6. Disposed forwardly of the gears 6 are the shafts 8 connected to worms drivingly connected to wormwheels to drive the front wheels 12 which are steerably mounted on forwardly pivoted arms 17. Disposed rearwardly of the gears 6 are the shafts 23 drivingly connected through worm and wormwheels with the wheels 20 and in turn with the shafts 28 which are connected through worm and wormwheels to the wheels 21. The wheels 20, 21 are carried by an axle 32 connected to the vehicle frame by the springs 33. Each end of the axle 32 carries plates 37, 38 to which are pivoted at 41, 42 the balancing levers 39, 40. The ends of the levers pivotally carry at 43, 44 the worm and wormwheel casing and the wheels 20, 21, the casing for the latter wheel being omitted from Fig. 3. Spare wheels 48 are carried by a member 47 at a level above that of the wheels 12, 20, 21. The wheels 48 can be driven from the gears 6 through shafts 49 and couplings, which are connected to operating means located near the driver's seat, the drive to the wheels being effective over certain terrains.
