Abstract
706,142. Valves. GARDNER, L. H. Oct. 24, 1951, No. 24846/51. Class 135 A fluid control valve actuated by a lobed timing wheel 26 coacting with a roller 23 carried by a plunger 28 which is formed at its inner end as a valve closure member 36 with a resilient sealing ring 34 and is rigidly connected by a rod 43 to a spring-loaded closure member 44, has a seating 33 for the valve member 36 formed on a sleeve 29 which is slidable in the valve housing and is urged towards the valve member 36 by fluid pressure in a chamber 14. This chamber is connected at 18 to a fluid-pressure actuated device whilst chambers 12, 13 in which the valve members 44, 36 are situated have pressure fluid supply and exhaust connections 16, 17. The sleeve 29 has radial ports 42 which permit communication between the chamber 14 and exhaust when the valve member 36 is open. An annular space 39 formed between shoulders 37, 38 on the sleeve 29 and valve housing respectively is vented to exhaust when the valve member 36 is fully open by movement of the shoulder 37 over an annular recess 41 connecting with exhaust. As the sleeve 29 moves to the left upon closure of the valve member 36 this venting of the space 39 is interrupted so that a compression chamber is formed whereby movement of the seat by the valve member 36 is resiliently opposed.
