Abstract

706,094. Space charge wave tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. July 12, 1950 [July 22, 1949], No. 17453/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1) In a space charge wave amplifier or oscillator the energy extraction means is constructed to extract energy in phase from the bunches of the different streams or beams of different velocity. It is explained that in the conventional tube the bunches are 180 degrees out of phase with respect to one another. The output device may be a cavity resonator in which the grids are curved or have axially offset portions, Figs. 2A, 2B (not shown), or a helix the turns of which are inclined to the axis of the tube, Fig. 3 (not shown). There may be a single beam the components of which have different velocities, or two parallel or concentric beams, and a focusing coil is provided. The helix may be made by winding it conventionally, fixing it to two diametrically opposite support rods and then sliding one of the rods axially relatively to the other. The drift tube may be designed as a waveguide operating in the cut-off region to prevent feedback.
