Abstract

705,856. Continuous casting-machines. WIELAND-WERKE AKT.-GES. June 11, 1951 [July 21, 1950], No. 13851/51. Class 83 (1) In a method of continuously casting metal in a cooled metal mould having a non-metallic lining, the heat extracted from the casting within the mould is only sufficient to form a skin thick enough to retain the molten core, the main heat extraction being effected outside the mould. The mould comprises an inner member 1 and an outer member 2 forming between them an annular space 6 for cooling water which is supplied by a pipe 5 and leaves through slots 4 by which it is directed on to the emerging casting. The member 1 is centred within the member 2 by screws 3. A collar 8 supports a graphite lining 7 which is kept at temperatures below 6000 C. Non-oxidizing gases may be supplied above the molten metal in known manner.
