Class 75 (1) A 'gas burner particularly for use in the surface hardening of metals comprises a chamber 9, Fig. 9, to which fuel gas is supplied through a tube 8 extending thereinto and having a closed end 10 and lateral gas outlet openings 11, the chamber wall 1 facing said closed end being provided with a gas or flame outlet slot, such as a zig-zag slot 2, Fig. 1, or a plurality of closely spaced slots 3, Fig. 3, which may be inclined or perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the wall 1. The latter may have various peripheral shapes. Alternatively a plurality of parallel gas outlet slots are formed between spaced parallel strips located in an opening in the burner chamber wall.
