Abstract
a -Aminoanthraquinone is prepared from an a -anthraquinone monosulphonate by reacting with aqueous ammonia of 3-8 per cent. strength by volume and nitrobenzene sodium or potassium sulphonate, the reaction being conducted under pressure at 150-185 DEG C. with agitation. Boric acid, e.g. in an amount of 1/4 -\ba1/3 of the weight of sulphonate, may be present. Examples describe the reaction of a -anthraquinone sodium sulphonate, nitrobenzene potassium sulphonate and ammonia, with and without boric acid.
