Abstract

The invention comprises tetrakisazo dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0703446/IV(c)/1> where one R is the residue of 1 : 3-diaminobenzene or a nuclear methyl or N-hydroxyethyl derivative thereof and the other R is the residue of a naphthylamine, naphthol or aminonaphthol free from carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups. These are made by coupling tetrazotized 4:4\sv-diaminodiphenylamine-2-sulphonic acid with 2 mols of an aminonaphtholsulphonic acid, tetrazotizing the product and coupling with one mol of each of the compounds corresponding to the residues R. The dyestuffs give dischargeable black or navy blue shades on cotton and rayon. In the examples, (1) the disazo dyestuff 4:4\sv-diamino-diphenylamine-2-sulphonic acid \sQ g -acid is tetrazotized and coupled with 1 mol of m-phenylene diamine and 1 mol of 1 : 8-aminonaphthol; (2) as in (1) using 1-naphthol as final component, (3) using as end components a mixture (2 mols in all) of m-phenylene diamine, m-toluylene diamine and 1-naphthol, (4) using as end components a mixture (2 mols in all) of N-hydroxyethyl-m-phenylene diamine and 1-naphthol.
