Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs made by coupling a compound of formula <FORM:0774612/IV(b)/1> (where R is a benzene or naphthalene residue, X1, X2 are Me or MeO and Z is an acid radicle) with a dihydroxy-naphthalene-sulphonic acid. The diazo-disazo compounds are made by coupling an appropriate tetrazotized 4, 41-diamino-diphenyl firstly in acid solution with a 1-amino-8-naphthol-disulphonic acid and then in an alkaline medium with a diazotized amine of the benzene or naphthalene series. The final coupling is effected in an alkaline medium. Final coupling components specified are 1, 5- and 2, 5-dihydroxynaphthalene-7-, 1, 8-dihydroxynaphthalene-4-mono- and -2, 4-, -4, 6- and -3, 6-di-, 2, 3- and 2, 8-dihydroxynaphthalene-6-, 1, 3-dihydroxy-naphthalene-4, 7-di-, 1, 7-dihydroxynaphthalene-3, 6-di-, 2, 3-dihydroxynaphthalene-5, 7-di- and 2, 7-dihydroxynaphthalene - 3, 6 - di - sulphonic acids. The dyestuffs dye leather in blue shades. In examples illustrative of the preparation of the dyestuffs and their use in dyeing processes the diphenyls used are 4, 41-diamino-diphenyl and its 3, 31-dimethyl- and -dimethoxy derivatives, the 1-amino-8-napthol-disulphonic acids are the 3, 6, and 4, 6-acids, R is derived from aniline and its 3- and 4-mono- and 2, 4- and 2, 5-di-sulphonic acids, 3- and 4-aminobenzoic acids, aniline-3-sulphonamide, 4-methoxy- and -chloro-aniline-3-sulphonic acids, 2-aminotoluene-5-sulphonic acid and its 3-chloro derivative and 1-naphthylamine the final components used being selected from those specified above.
