Abstract
703,421. Stapling. WOLLASTON, H. J. BUCHANAN-. Jan. 28; 1952 [Feb. 1, 1951; Feb. 13, 1951; April 12, 1951; Nov. 17, 1951], Nos. 2485/51; 3425/51; 8507/51 and 27011/51. Class 89(3) In a stapling device in which the driver is carried by a pivoted or resilient arm secured to a base, the anvil is horizontally and/or vertically spaced from the point of attachment of the arm to the base to enable sheets of unlimited extent to be joined together by staples. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, a spring arm is secured to a portion A of the base by'rivets 2 and the anvil 1 is carried by a portion C connected to the portion A by a bent strip B. In another form, Fig. 3, an arm is pivoted to the lugs 2 on a portion A1 which is connected by portions A2, B2, B1 to the portion C carrying the anvil 1. In a modification, the portion B2 is of flattened S-section in elevation. In other modifications, Fig. 6, the anvil is carried by a return extension D of the portion C or, as shown dotted, by a further return extension E. In a further modification, the portions C, D are spaced vertically instead of horizontally from the portion B1. The device may be used for stapling cartons and for attaching small sheets to the centres of large sheets.
