Abstract
701,061. Automatic circuit-breakers. HEINEMANN ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 9, 1951 [June 26, 1951], No. 18782/51. Class 38(5) In a trip-free circuit-breaker, similar to that of Specification 684,311, and having a toggle linkage between the contact lever 2<SP>1</SP> and the operating handle 12, the latter is moved automatically to the " off " position only after the contacts are open. The toggle comprises links 9, 10 joined together at 13<SP>1</SP>, to the lever 2<SP>1</SP> at 18, and to an extension 11 of the handle at 19. The coils 23 of a spring surround the ends of pivot 19 and a portion 22 lies above the link 10, the free ends of the spring abutting the handle pivot 13. Normally the spring is unstrained, but on release of the toggle, the link 10 is moved to stress the spring, Fig. 6, which when it subsequently expands resets the toggle and moves the handle " off ", Fig. 7. The spring may be assisted or replaced by a blade spring 21a, Fig. 6, secured to link 10. The movement of the handle may operate an indicator, or the handles of several single-pole breakers may be mechanically connected so that movement of one causes opening of the remaining breakers without breaking their toggles.
