Abstract
699,461. Linear-dimension gauges. TURNER TANNING MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and HALL, C. Nov. 26, 1951 [Dec. 22, 1950], No. 31205/50. Class 106 (ii). A caliper-type gauge for measuring the thickness of leather comprises two jaws 27, 28, Fig. 5, a fixed anvil 2 on the lower jaw 27 and a spring pressed member 1, co-operating with the anvil 2. The member 1 is secured to a shaft 5 carrying a pin 6 which engages in a worm shaft 8 which carries a pointer 3 moving over a scale 4. The other end of the shaft 6, 17, engages in a vertical slot to prevent rotation of the shaft 5. A lever 21, Fig. 6, is urged by a spring, not shown, against the rod 17 and provides the spring pressure for the member 1. The lever 21 is urged in a counter-clockwise direction as viewed in Fig. 6 and carries a grooved roller 22 at its free end which bears on the rod 17 and moves along it as the shaft 5 is raised and lowered. A lever 39 pivoted at 40 serves to lift the member 1 and shaft 5 for the introduction of the material to be gauged between the member 1 and the anvil 2. Movement of the lever 39 is conveniently made by depressing the plunger 44 in the upper jaw 28. Specification 699,460, which describes a U- shaped frame for housing the gauge, is referred to.
