Abstract

699,098. Collectors. VAUGHAN, J. H., and WOODWARD, C. H. Jan. 23, 1952 [Oct. 24, 1950], No. 25868/50. Class 38 (i). [Also in Group XXX] Electrical conductor rails 10 are protected by a resilient insulating sleeve having side walls 13. The extremities of which form facing lips which are normally in contact or closely adjacent and which are forced apart by the passage of an arm 18 of a current collecting device 19 passing therebetween. The conductor rails 10 are supported in recesses 14 formed in the side walls of the insulating sleeve so as to leave sufficient space 15 between the upper side of the rail 10 and the sleeve to accommodate fish-plates. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 2 and 3, the insulating member is circular in cross-section and surrounds a U-shaped rail 10 and the current collecting device has two carbon or carbon compound contact wheels 21 held against the rail 10 by wheels 22 running in the sleeve on each side of the facing lips. Fishplates joining the rails 10 are accommodated in recesses 20 formed in the sides of the rails 10.
