Abstract

698,929. Spectacle frames. AMERICAN OPTICAL CO. Feb. 11, 1952, No. 3602/52. Class 97 (i). A spectacle frame comprises a supporting structure of a bridge, portions extending therefrom and bearing temple supports, and separate rims encircling each lens, each rim being divided and provided at opposed ends of the division with lugs perforated to receive connection means to hold the lugs together, each rim being held in the supporting structure by means adjacent the upper lug and means on the opposite side of the rim so that the latter is engaged within a groove of the structure and so that, when in position, the connecting means can be withdrawn for the replacement of the lens. As shown in Fig. 3 the structure includes a bridge 17 and extending portion 18, both of metallic or non-metallic material, having a temple supporting end 19. The lens-encircling rim 25, of metal or plastic, has lugs 28 held together by a screw 27, the upper lug 28 having a projection 37 adapted to rest on a shelf 35<SP>1</SP> provided by a hinge-plate 35 projecting into a recess 34 of the portion 18. At its opposite side the rim 25 bears a portion 31, Fig. 11, connected to an arm 32 pivotally bearing a nose-pad 33. When the lugs 28 have been inserted in the recess 34 the upper portion of the rim 25 is located in a groove 23 of the member 18 and the portion 31 is secured to a depending portion 20 of the structure by a screw 39, Fig. 11. The screw 27 is thus accessible when the rim is in position. In a modification a slot is provided between the lugs 28 in which the strip 351 may be clamped by the screw 27.
