Abstract
698,856. Enamels. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1952 [Feb. 24, 1951], No. 4655/52. Class 56. [Also in Group XL (a)] An enamel suitable for coating the iron cone of a cathode-ray tube preferably consists of 69 per cent SiO 2 , 2.2 per cent Al 2 O 3 , 18.6 per cent Na 2 O, 8.7 per cent CaO, 0.5 per cent ZnO, and 1 per cent CoO, all by weight. The enamel is refractory having a melting point of from 800 C. to 1100 C., and is resistant to corrosion by acids or alkalies. The enamel is rendered conductive by mixing with pulverulent graphite, from 5 to 10 per cent by weight, preferably 7 to 49 per cent. The enamel and graphite composition is applied by spraying or by immersion of the cone, and the cone is heated in a furnace to about 1100 C. for about 3 minutes.
