Abstract

<PICT:0698728/IV (c)/1> Threads 1, arranged some distance apart, are led under roller 3 above one end of a false bottom 8, through treatment liquid 4 and out under roller 5 mounted above the other end of the false bottom 8. The fluid level is maintained by fresh liquid entering through pipe 10 and overflowing the weir 12. The movement of the threads causes the liquid to pass through baffles 6, 9 and channel 7, the entries to the baffles being larger than the exits. The ends of the rollers 3, 5 are let into the side walls of the treatment vat, Fig. 1 (not shown), and a movable partition is arranged so that, for narrow sheets the distance between the outer thread and a side wall does not exceed 1 cm. The flow through channel 7 may be assisted by a propeller or pump.
