Abstract

696,855. Sliding windows. HALLAM, SLEIGH & CHESTON, Ltd. June 17, 1952 [June 6, 1951], No. 13380/51. Class 20(iii) A vertically sliding counterbalanced window assembly particularly for an omnibus or railway carriage has a roller or shoe &c., carried by the free end of a leaf or blade spring secured at its other end to a side of the window panel or the framing &c. in which it slides and a curved or inclined track carried by the framing or the window panel, in engagement with which track the roller is maintained by the spring. As shown, a leaf spring 9 is riveted to the outer face of each side member 6 of the glazing frame comprising a half-drop window behind an extension bar set forward of the general plane with a slide groove receiving a guide rib 2 on the fixed framing 3. A roller 15 carried at the end of the outermost leaf 13 engages a channel-sectioned cam track 16 of a parabolic curvature secured to the framing 3, the lifting force exerted by the tracks being constant at all positions of the window. The cam tracks may be a vertically set flat plate, the rollers being grooved to engage over their curved edge. In another form the springs are secured to the fixed framing and the tracks to the sides of the sliding panel. The roller and track may be provided at one side only of the window.
